Himalayan People
Sherpas, Manangis, Dolpas, Lopas and Baragaonlis are mainly considered to be the authentic Himalayan people of Nepal. Among these Tibetan-speaking groups, Sherpas are mainly found in the east of Nepal, Solukhumbu region. Likewise, the Baragaonlis and Lopas live in the Tibetan rain-shadow areas of Upper and Lower Mustang while the Manangis live in Manang district area. Dolpas live in Dolpa district, West Nepal, above 4,000 meters.
Mid-hill and Valley People
Majority of Brahmans and Chhettris along with Magars, Gurungs, Tamangs, Sunuwars, Newars, Thakalis, and Chepangs live in these areas. Newars, traders by occupation, however, are the natives of the Kathmandu valley.
The Terai People
Tharus, Darai, Kumhal, Majhi and other groups are ethnically Terai people. The Maithili and Bhojpuri-speaking Terai people primarily subsist on agriculture.
