Around the Valley

Nagarkot

This hilly resort, ideal and famous amid hikers and bikers, at the height of 2,300 meters and some 32 kilometers east of Kathmandu is also a popular destination to observe sunrise and sunset especially between October and march. The place is windy throughout the year but in winter, it’s much chillier than Kathmandu valley because of its height. This hilly resort also offers a spectacular landscape full of terraced lands and typical Nepalese villages all around and a beautiful view of Lhotse, Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Manaslu at the backdrop.

Dhulikhel

Predominantly a Newar settlement at the height of 1550 meters, this small city south east of Kathmandu valley and beyond Banepa just as well provides spectacular views of mountains. With fairly nice hotels perched on the hillock to facilitate views of the Himalayas, this another hilly resort destination also links hiking trails to Nagarkot, Namo Buddha and Panauti. Once a very important trade route between Kathmandu valley and Tibet Dhulikhel is at the equal distance (32 kms) as Nagarkot and is nestled in the southern swathe of Nagarkot Hill itself.

Dhulikhel is also rich in its art and architecture that can be witnessed in the old settlement of the town where buildings and houses possess fine structures and intricate woodcarvings.
A small Kali Temple atop the Dhulikhel hill above the main bazaar offers splendid sunrise and Clear Mountain views of Ganesh Himal to Everest.
