To the east of Nepal, in the Khumbu region lies the tallest and proudest peak of the whole world, the Mt. Everest that many dream of just having a glimpse of and a real Mecca to many trekkers from around the world. The tallest pride, called “Sagarmatha” in Nepali and “Chhomolungma” in neighboring Tibet measures 8,848 meters (29028 feet). This region is full of rugged terrain and gorges that range from 5,800 meters to the top of the world, the Everest.
Kala Pathar Trekking
Kala Pahtar in the Everest Region, is not only about the the Everest base camp or trekking it is also an escape for those who indulge in the mightiest beauty of nature which this region is full of. Gokyo Valley that almost seems enveloped in turquoise blue alpine lake, majestic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu all four of the world’s eight highest peaks are what make this region more important.
Sherpa villages including Namche Bazaar, Thame, Khumjung, and beautiful Tengboche Monastery are just other attractions of this place.
Alternatively however, Jiri Trail once Sir Edmund Hillary and his crew took to climb the Mt. Everest can be used to reach Kala Pathar.
Trekking To Goyko Ri
Traversing through a long valley towards Goyko through beautiful lakes in the Khumbu region is just another experience for a lifetime. This route as well offers magnificent views of Yak pastures, gigantic glaciers, and eye-soothing sceneries of Khumbu that ultimately takes you to a small village Gokyo that seems to level up with the beautiful lake.
Peaks above 8,000m ideal for trekking within the Everest region are: Lhotse and Cho Oyu
Thamserku, Nuptse, Amadablam and Pumori, all above 6,000m in the Everest region can also be considered for trekking.
Everest Chola Pass Gokyo trekking (18 Days)
This trek follows the “Everest Trail” through scenic views towards Namche Bazaar and beyond along the Imtse Khola. This rather easy-paced trek also offers opportunity to pass through some Sherpa villages and Thyangboche with the Everest and Ama Dablam in the backdrop. The trek continues past the Chola pass and towards Gokyo where Gokyo Ri can be ascended for magnificent views. It takes another 3 days to descend to Lukla for a flight back to Kathmandu.
