Kanchenjunga Region

Relatively less traveled, this area is in the most remote distance from the Kathmandu Valley, in far-eastern Nepal. As there are only few trekkers in this region, there are hardly any lodges and inns available. Tented camps are highly recommended along this route.

People from mixed cultures inhabit the area including Rai, Limbu, Chhetri and Brahmin. Since the trekking route is completely secluded and far-off, it would be ideal for those who look for less explored routes and want to explore the Himalayas pretty much on their own. But prior experience is extremely required as you trudge into the extreme wilderness of the Himalayas.

Trekking apart, for those who are interested in exploring natural history and ecological zones from the subtropics to glacial wilderness, this trekking destination could just be what they are looking for.

Flights are usually chartered to Taplejung and the trek starts from the Tamur River past Ghunsa for the north Kangchenjunga Base Camp. Mountaineering can be taken alternatively for that extra thrill. Real close views of Kanchenjunga can be observed along the trekking route.
